The little Ruston engine "Le breton" is back in its original shape after some work.
The coolant tank was too badly corroded to be efficiently repaired by welding or putty, so it has been entirely reconstructed from scratch.

The radiator seals have finally been all replaced by new ones molded in polyurethan compound by ourselves. Their hardness has proven suitable to the need, the mold is kept secure because if we have to disassemble again, it would be necessary to mold new seals to replace the too distorted ones.

Reassembly required a lot of adjusting for the radiators, tank, blower and sheets can fit together. Unfortunately, it appears that one of the new ball bearings suffers of a too narrow fitting and that the new belt is too tighten. The bearing is overstressed and already makes noise...

Tests on static and on service track being satisfactory, the engine has been sent on main line for a special train to work on some sleepers. In such use, it is more efficient than a Decauville.

It remains a huge sanding work prior to finish paint. The protective coat allows to get the engine more pleasant to look at in waiting the next step. Alex even painted temporary markings !

La remise en état n'est pas terminée, loin de là, mais le fait d'avoir réussi la remise en route et d'avoir fiabilisé le refroidissement permet d'envisager la suite avec la satisfaction d'avoir un engin en état de marche à présenter en retour de la confiance qui nous a été témoignée quand on nous l'a confié.
Restoration is far from being complete but this successful repair and the colling system secured allow us to prepare for the next round with the satisfaction to have a running engine to show off in return of the confidence we were granted when the engine was placed in our hands.
